Teledentistry is now available

One of our top priorities is to ensure our members have access to the health care they need. Effective March 21, 2020, dental consultation by phone call or video chat, also known as teledentistry, is a benefit available to all Horizon NJ Health members. Teledentristy is a way for you to speak with your dentist about your dental emergency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to use teledentistry

  1. Call your dentist’s office. Be sure to have your member ID available and pharmacy information ready in case a prescription is needed.

  2. Leave a message with the answering service or answering machine.

  3. A dentist will return your call.

If you don’t have a dentist, please visit horizonNJhealth.com/findadoctor or call 1-855-878-5368 (TTY 711) for help finding a provider.

It is important that you call your dentist for a dental emergency, such as a toothache or other tooth-related issues, instead of going to the hospital Emergency Room (ER). You should only go to the ER for the following oral emergencies:

  • Severe, uncontrollable bleeding
  • Pain from trauma to the mouth, jaw or head
  • Severe swelling or infection
  • A broken or dislocated jaw

For questions about teledentistry, please call 1-855-878-5368 (TTY 711).
