Removal of Ranitidine from the market

On April 1, 2020 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the removal of all prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) ranitidine drugs from the market. Ranitidine (commonly known by the brand name Zantac) is a drug that treats heartburn or acid reflux

Some ranitidine products have small amounts of a cancer-causing impurity. This impurity increases over time, and when stored at higher than room temperatures, it may cause unacceptable levels of exposure. According to the FDA, higher levels of exposure may cause cancer.

Your health and safety are important to us. If you are currently taking ranitidine, contact your health care provider to discuss which other treatments may be appropriate.
