Karen L. Clark, President & Chief Operating Officer, Horizon NJ Health, Receives Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ, Inc. 2008 Woman of Distinction Award
(WEST TRENTON, NJ - March 11, 2008) - Horizon NJ Health announced today that Karen L. Clark, President and Chief
Operating Officer for Horizon NJ Health, will be presented with the 2008 Woman of Distinction award by the Girl Scouts of Central and
Southern NJ, Inc. The organization is honoring eight New Jersey women, all former Girl Scouts, who exemplify vision, leadership and who
have accomplished great things in New Jersey.
"I am deeply honored," Karen L. Clark commented. "I grew up in a small NJ town in the 1950's and 60's, where I was sometimes excluded from
activities because I didn't look like everyone else. At my first Girl Scout meeting, I remember feeling the joy of being accepted.
Everyone was welcomed regardless of their race, color or background. The Girl Scouts emphasize character, honesty and self-esteem and they
inspire girls to realize their own potential, so they can develop as individuals and contribute to our future."
Mary E. Connell, CEO of GSCSNJ noted that, "Our Women of Distinction are truly inspiring and they show girls how they can aspire to achieve
their goals. The women receiving awards are leaders in their fields, innovators of unique programs and services and prime examples of a life
promoting equity for women and girls everywhere. The program not only highlights excellence, but also ingenuity and the ability to overcome
barriers that still exist for women today."
