Horizon NJ Health Helps New Jersey Celebrate National Health Center Week - August 5-11, 2007
(West Trenton, NJ, August 5, 2007) - National Health Care Week, scheduled for August 5-11, 2007 is fast approaching. Horizon NJ Health and its Care-A-Van, a mobile health and wellness van, will be visiting many health fairs across the State to take part in the celebrations. At selected health fairs, Horizon NJ Health and its professional staff will be on hand to:
- Offer dental and skin screenings
- Hand out information on health related educational programs
- Conduct the popular "Dancing for Your Health" program that is designed for all age groups to participate in
"Horizon NJ Health salutes the work of health centers that serve as a health safety net for the uninsured and underinsured populations in our State," said Karen L. Clark, President and Chief Operating Officer for Horizon NJ Health. "We are community partners and neighbors with health centers and commend their efforts to expand quality health care to a population that often finds itself lacking even the most basic medical necessities."
"Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) excel giving their patients access to primary, pre-natal and preventive care," said Philip M. Bonaparte, M.D. Chief Medical Officer for Horizon NJ Health. "These centers cater to those individuals who may have otherwise remained isolated and unable to access health care of any kind. By providing a means to overcome barriers such as lack of transportation, language and literacy, these centers provide a service that benefits communities across all of New Jersey."
National health centers or Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are community-based facilities that provide high quality, cost effective primary and preventive health care and serve more than 15 million traditionally, underserved and hard to reach patients nationwide. In New Jersey, they serve close to 325,000 of the state's most vulnerable residents.
