The Honorable Dr. Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, Honors Philip Bonaparte, Chief Medical Officer, Horizon NJ Health, For His Service to the Community
(West Trenton, NJ - March 6, 2007) - Horizon NJ Health announced today that the Honorable Dr. Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, and other dignitaries honored Philip M. Bonaparte, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Horizon NJ Health, at ceremonies celebrating his vision in establishing community programs for the less fortunate in his homeland of Grenada.
The February 18, 2007 event included a groundbreaking and fundraising initiative for the National Deliverance Ministry, a complex Dr. Bonaparte envisioned when he was a teenager on the island. Plans for the site include buildings to house a church, pre-school and daycare, adult literacy and computer training, youth counseling, and a food program for the elderly and other residents in the community.
"Grenada is honoring a man whose dedication and caring for the underserved have been an integral and vital part of his identity and purpose in life," said Karen L. Clark, President and Chief Operating Officer for Horizon NJ Health. "We congratulate him for this well-deserved recognition. We appreciate his compassion and commitment, demonstrated daily, for those who are underserved and in need in our New Jersey communities."
"At 19, the youngest of eleven children and prior to his entering medical school in Grenada, Philip Bonaparte saw there was a place where he could help, so he set out to establish a refuge for the island's neediest," commented Reverend Paul Alexander, a pastor in Grenada, mentored by Dr. Bonaparte. "Unemployment was high, literacy was low and many kids roamed the streets. Philip wanted to give something positive back to his community and he started visiting people in their homes. He encouraged individuals and families, letting them know that they could improve their lives and he invited them to evening services in the open air. Before Philip Bonaparte had a building, he had a mission. We welcome him home and are grateful for his unfaltering vision and concern for others."
Dr. Bonaparte is a physician, certified in internal medicine, an ordained bishop, and founder of the New Hope Church of God, East Windsor, NJ. Dr. Bonaparte intends to be one of the first to donate to help build the ministry he envisioned as a youth.
Attendees at the event included:
- The Honorable Dr. Keith Mitchell - Prime Minister of Grenada
- The Honorable Glynnis Robberts - Parliamentary Representative - St. George’s
South
- The Honorable Ann David Antoine - Minister of Health and Ecclesiastical Affairs
