Horizon NJ Health Travels to the Communities to Celebrate National Health Center Week - August 6-12, 2006
(West Trenton, NJ - August 7, 2006) - Horizon NJ Health, the state's largest health insurer serving the publicly insured, is proud to celebrate National Health Center Week August 6-12, 2006. Horizon NJ Health will be a participating community partner onsite at 13 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) across New Jersey with professional staff and the Horizon NJ Health Care-A-Van, a mobile health and wellness unit.
Horizon NJ Health will offer health education materials, outreach, learning opportunities on disease management and prevention and NJ FamilyCare enrollment information. At selected sites, the staff will present the Horizon NJ Health "Dancing for Your Health," an exercise activity for the entire family.
"These health centers fill in the gaps in health care by serving low income, medically underserved and high-risk, vulnerable populations," noted Karen L. Clark, President and Chief Operating Officer for Horizon NJ Health. "No two health centers are alike, since they are developed as partnerships through community initiatives. The centers do, however, share a common mission in that they exist to help improve access to care for our most medically underserved, offering linguistically and culturally appropriate services. FQHCs serve the communities, often offering expanded hours for care. Their doors remain open to all, regardless of ability to pay. As a committed partner in every county throughout New Jersey, Horizon NJ Health is honored to salute the contributions of our health centers, staff, volunteers and board members, who have served more than 322,000 patients in communities throughout New Jersey."
National health centers, also known as Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), are community-based facilities providing high quality, cost effective primary and preventive health care. These centers serve more than 15 million traditionally underserved and hard to reach patients nationwide.
