Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) is a special program designed to help screen
children for medical problems early and to keep checking for problems as the child grows.
With EPSDT, children's care can be tracked to make sure that they are receiving the right services at the
right times. The doctor provides EPSDT services for vision, teeth, hearing, nutrition, growth, and development. EPSDT includes immunizations to help protect children from disease.
Horizon NJ Health's Physicians immunize your child against dangerous illnesses, such as: measles, mumps,
tetanus, rubella, pertussis, diphtheria, polio, Hib, hepatitis B, chicken pox, pneumococcal invasive
disease, and influenza. Our doctors also provide lead screenings to determine if your child has been
exposed to unhealthy levels of lead in paint or other substances.
Your child's Horizon NJ Health Physician will be able to provide many of these checkups, treat the problems,
and call in specialists if they are needed. Horizon NJ Health covers all of these EPSDT services for members
up to the age of 21 years. We also cover prescription and nonprescription drugs, in-home ventilator
services, and private-duty nursing when recommended as a result of an EPSDT screening.
